Sometimes you just have to believe!
Where It All Began
When I was a little girl, my favourite thing in the world was drawing.
Whenever someone in the family fell ill, I would immediately set to work creating a handmade Get Well Soon card. Somehow, almost miraculously, they always seemed to get better!
I became convinced that I carried a tiny bit of magic inside me — that perhaps my drawings had the power to heal.
I’ve grown up a little since then and, somewhere along the way, discovered that magic doesn’t really exist.
Or does it?
Lately, I’ve been wondering.
The Magic of Making
When I look back over my life, I can’t help but recognise certain moments of inexplicable magic.
There was a season when acute ill health forced me to step away from a successful career in design. In that unexpected wilderness, it was my paintbrushes and paints that became a kind of lifeline — gently nursing me back towards health and restoring a sense of wholeness to my being.
Through the simple, sacred act of creating — of painting and drawing — I discovered a profound sense of fulfilment and a closeness to God that I had never experienced in quite the same way before.
And healing.
The quiet, mysterious magic of healing.
Made to Create
Perhaps it shouldn’t surprise me.
When I pause to consider the Creator who made the universe — and the extraordinary truth that we ourselves are made in His image — it seems only natural that we should carry within us this deep-seated urge to create.
Perhaps creativity is woven into our very DNA.
Every time we cross the threshold into a creative act, we are, in some small way, stepping into the God-given invitation to live more creatively, more attentively and more fully.
And something happens.
Our senses awaken.
Our spirits lift.
Our veins begin to pulse with fresh, revitalising energy.
A Life of Awe & Wonder
I don’t know about you, but I want to live that kind of life.
A life where even the ordinary holds the possibility of becoming extraordinary.
Where each day offers an opportunity to pause, to notice, to make and to wonder.
Where a brushstroke can become a prayer, a painting can become a vessel for hope, and creativity can become a pathway towards healing and wholeness.
And perhaps — just perhaps — those who encounter my paintings might find a little of that same hope, healing and wonder within their Spirit-inspired brushstrokes.
A little bit like those handmade Get Well Soon cards I drew as a child.
Maybe the magic was there all along.
